Rebecca School

Admissions

Our Admissions process begins with an invitation for parents to tour Rebecca School. Following the tour, you will fill out and submit an online admissions packet for the 2024-2025 school year, which lists required documents, including IEP, teacher/therapist reports, diagnosis, and the parent narrative. Once your packet is received, our Admissions Director will be in contact to schedule your intake. You and your child will be invited to engage in a live FEAS (Functional Emotional Assessment Scale) intake with our Clinical Director.

This is when you and your child play, engage and interact. This session is a simple thirty-minute observation of you and your child at play. Our Clinical Director will evaluate your child’s level of functional emotional development based on the FEAS. We may also welcome your child in for classroom observation. It is important to establish the right classroom for your child – a place where they will have friends and peers functioning at their level. If we are unable to schedule a classroom visit in person before the school year starts, Rebecca Schools Director, Assistant Director, and the Clinical Director will make a determination of classroom.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Admissions Questions

What is the application process for The Rebecca School?Parents are asked to submit an online Tour Request Form. Once we have received your request, our Director of Admissions, Liz O’Shea, will call you to schedule a tour. You will receive a brochure by mail prior to your tour date. During the tour, parents will have opportunities to observe the classrooms and school environment, to determine if they wish to apply to our school. Parents are encouraged to ask questions at this time and learn as much as possible about our program. Following the tour you will receive an email link to our online application platform.

What is the difference between a Tour Request Form and an Application Form? The Tour Request Form tells the Director of Admissions that your family would like to tour our school.  It does not indicate your interest in applying to our school, so please be sure to submit a completed application by the deadline, if you would like your child to be considered for admission.

When can I request a tour?Tour Request Forms for the 2023-24 school year are available on our website.

How much time should we set aside for the tour?A tour lasts approximately an hour and a half. Parents who arrive more than 15 minutes late must re-schedule.

Do we bring our child on the tour?Tours are for adults only. If space is offered to your child and you accept it, then your child will have a chance to visit the school at a later date.

Can tours be rescheduled? We will do our best to accommodate schedule changes. While we wish we could honor all rescheduling requests, it may not be possible due to the limited number of available appointments.

What is the deadline for the 2023-24 school year?Although we have a rolling admissions schedule, if you wish to have your child begin the summer session, your application must be received by April 1, 2023. If your child will begin the fall semester, your application must be received by June 1, 2023.

Is there an application fee:A $100 non-refundable application fee should accompany your completed application.

Is the Rebecca School funded by the DOE?The Rebecca School is a private school and is considered a unilateral private school placement for your child.

Do you interview parents and/or children? The Rebecca School application process includes an assessment by the Clinical Director. The FEAS (Functional Emotional Assessment Scale) is scheduled once the completed application has been received. Parent and child together will spend 30 minutes in a play interaction. Parent questions can be addressed following the FEAS by meeting with our Program Director, Tina McCourt.

Are applications considered on a first come, first served basis?Every family who tours and submits a completed application will be considered for admission.

I applied last year but was not offered a space. Do I have to reapply this year?Yes, you will have to send updated documents and schedule a follow-up FEAS, but the $100 fee will be waived.

What if I need more information? We welcome your questions and look forward to providing you with any information that can assist you with the application process. Please contact our Director of Admissions, Liz O’Shea, via email eoshea@rebeccaschool.org or by phone 212-810-4120 ex.234

What are the school hours and school year length? The Rebecca School offers a 12 month school year. Our school day begins at 8:30 AM and ends at 3 PM, with Friday afternoon dismissal at 12:30 PM. Bussing is provided by OPT for students whose IEP mandates transportation.
