What are the essential components to promote a student’s creativity and curiosity? During this one day conference, participants will understand how Floortime™ and the DIR® model can be used across the disciplinary domains with students of all ages.  Breakout sessions will address a range of themes including how curiosity and creativity develop through meaningful relationships across the developmental ladder. By cultivating curiosity and creativity, students are able to build a strong foundation necessary for productive learning and development in a shared world. Presenters from the Rebecca School, the self-advocacy and ICDL community will show how following a student’s passion can both build a strong relationship and accomplish discipline specific goals. This conference is open to self-advocates, professionals and parents.

Our Music Therapists at Mid-Atlantic Regional Music Therapy Conference!

Our Music Therapy department attended and presented at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic Regional Music Therapy Conference in Ocean City Maryland this past weekend, over 660 music therapists and music therapy students were in attendance!

Stacey taught a continuing education class, “Finding Freedom at the Piano:Expanding Clinical Improvisational Skills through Innovative Methods” providing theoretical and experiential instruction. Zach presented a case study from his training at the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Clinic at NYU. The entire music therapy department, Stacey, Zach, Anne and Pete had the opportunity to present, “Sharing an Experience, DIR© and Group Music Therapy” highlighting how improvisational music therapy used within the DIR© model can provide important ways for students to interact with their peers through meaningful shared music experiences.

Attendees expressed their appreciation for being able to be introduced to this work as well as continue to learn from the work as this is the sixth year music therapists from the Rebecca School have presented the collaboration of DIR© and improvisational music therapy.
